National Grid's second response to the power cuts in Hilton
Charles Cuddington, one of our PC, has had a further response from National Grid re the recent power cuts.
Please find the response below.
Explanation re why there have been 5 power cuts in the last three months.
National Grid response
All have been caused by birds striking overhead powerlines. The circuit is acting as designed. It sees a transient fault, and clears it within a few seconds. Effective, yet inconvenient for all those connected to the circuit. Hilton takes it supply from a substation at Hatton. Work is in progress to look at putting the overhead power lines that crosses the fields between Hatton and Marston underground. These are not the HV powerlines on the pylons.
Another part of the plan, is to place an automated circuit breaker just north of the A50. This will protect Hilton from any faults in the 5km section of overhead network heading north from Hilton.
This work is approved and funded.
